Develop a successful and fulfilling
art practice.
You’ve poured your heart into your art. But are you capturing the visual messages you really want to send out to the world? Is your art resonating with your authentic self and the audience you want to reach?
Imagine entering your studio knowing you have everything you need to create art that makes your heart sing.
This is your invitation to take yourself as seriously as you take your art.
At the end of Beyond Technique you’ll …
Learn, grow and develop in your art and your life.
There comes a time when feedback from family and friends just isn’t enough.
All great art contains something
of the maker.
Your creations are an extension of who you are, revealing profound truths about your identity, experiences and stories. But how do you know if your work is good? For many artists, the honest answer is that you don’t - not without feedback. That’s why learning to give and receive constructive feedback is one of the most essential skills you can develop as an artist.
In Beyond Technique, you’ll cultivate the eye of an art critic. Guided by Claire Benn, you’ll engage with the art of others and use feedback as a tool for bringing out the best in your own work. You’ll learn to welcome feedback, give it with care, and spot where your art sings and where it could be refined. These are skills that stick. It’s not just about creating great art today; it’s about building a successful and fulfilling art practice that lasts for decades to come.
Art is my life and my life is art.

Meet your tutor
As an educator, Claire has had the privilege of teaching and mentoring artists internationally, sharing her approach to art that emphasises authenticity, self-reflection, and the development of a personal creative voice. A Final Note from Claire
Art isn’t just something you do; it is a reflection of who you are. It carries your experiences, your perspective, and your intentions. But to truly create work that speaks authentically and with purpose, you need more than technical skill. You need clarity, confidence, and commitment.
That is what Beyond Technique is about: helping you uncover the artist you want to be and equipping you with the mindset and tools to pursue that vision. I have designed this program to challenge you, support you, and ultimately empower you to take your art and yourself seriously.
This isn’t a journey I can take for you, but it is one I am deeply honoured to guide you through. Together, we will explore what it means to create with intention, to refine your eye, and to embrace feedback as a vital part of growth. Along the way, you will connect with a community of like-minded artists and discover the joy of pushing boundaries both in your work and in yourself.
If you are ready to commit to this journey, I will be here every step of the way. Your art deserves to be seen, and your voice deserves to be heard. Let us go beyond technique and into the heart of what it means to create.
Warmly,
Claire

Beyond Technique kicks off on 1 January 2025.
-
No, this program is structured over 9 weeks, with two modules released every two weeks to guide your learning in a steady, supportive way. However, you will have lifetime access to all program materials, so you can revisit the content at your own pace anytime after the program ends. This allows you to balance the structure of the course with the flexibility to deepen your learning as it suits you.
-
Absolutely. You can download a detailed calendar with the release dates for each module and the schedule for Claire’s live Q&A session here. This allows you to plan ahead and make the most of the program.
-
Not at all! While Claire is a visual artist who works primarily with fibre and mixed media, the principles of Beyond Technique are relevant across art forms. Whether you work with oils, watercolours, sculpture, or even ceramics, this program is designed to help you deepen your practice, develop your creative voice, and build confidence. However, this program may not be suitable for disciplines such as poetry or music, as the content focuses heavily on visual art practices.
-
Not necessarily. The goal of Beyond Technique isn’t about limiting you to one medium or discipline. Instead, this experience is about helping you develop a focused and intentional creative practice. Through self-reflection and guidance, you’ll identify which materials, techniques, or approaches resonate most with you and serve your creative vision. It’s not a silver bullet; rather, it’s a process of discovery that enables you to make meaningful choices that align with your artistic goals. Whether you work across multiple disciplines or stick to one, this course equips you with tools to create with clarity and purpose.
-
Absolutely! While Claire Benn works primarily with fibre and mixed media, the principles and teachings in Beyond Technique are applicable to artists across all visual disciplines. Whether you’re a painter, sculptor, ceramicist, or work in mixed media, this program is designed to help you develop your creative practice, refine your artistic voice, and deepen your understanding of composition and intention.
Note: Claire Benn is a visual artist, and while music and writing are art forms, this program focuses exclusively on the visual arts and can be adapted to any visual medium. -
If you’re at the very beginning of your art journey, Beyond Technique may not be the right program for you just yet. This immersive developmental program is designed for artists who are already familiar with their chosen medium and ready to focus on refining their practice, exploring composition, and developing their creative voice. For those new to art, we suggest starting with one of our more skills-based courses to build a strong foundation before joining a program like Beyond Technique.
-
Beyond Technique is designed to help you build the mindset, habits, and critical skills needed to create art you’re proud to share with the world. The program is structured around three pillars: yourself, your art, and your audience. These three pillars help you refine your creative process, enhance your compositional skills, and develop confidence in your work.
When you join Tier 1, you’ll gain access to nine weeks of transformative content, delivered at a supportive pace to ensure you can absorb each learning before moving forward. You’ll also have the opportunity to connect with Claire through live Q&A sessions and a private online community, where you’ll practice giving and receiving feedback - a skill that’s essential for any professional artist.
For those looking to go even deeper, Beyond Technique offers exciting opportunities beyond Tier 1. Later in the program, participants will be invited to apply for Tier 2, which involves an exclusive six-month mentoring program with Claire and a small, intimate group of artists to further develop your skills, receive personalised feedback, and refine your work.
After tier 2, a select group of artists will be invited to take part in a professionally curated exhibition.
To explore these further opportunities, the Beyond Technique online programme is your gateway to art that resonates and growth that lasts. -
No, the six-month mentoring program is only available to Beyond Technique students. This ensures participants have the foundational knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to make the most of the mentoring experience.

We choose to host our students’ community groups on Facebook as an accessible platform that allows ease of communication for students, tutors and administrators. All members can post images and videos, create albums of work and keep track of popular topics within the group. We have multiple moderators within the group for encouragement and guidance, ensuring our communities are safe learning environments. This free platform keeps the cost of administration and course fees down for everyone. It is important to note that we offer a closed Facebook group for enrolled students only to connect and share their journey for a lifetime. This group is not compulsory but is highly recommended!
To ensure an inclusive experience, we livestream our Q&A session through YouTube and send regular updates via email for those unable to create a Facebook account.
